Wolves in Alaska are even stalking people!

Last week at Ft. Richardson, Alaska, three lady hikers with their dogs on leashes were walking in an area for hikers when their dogs became concern about something behind them. The ladies looked behind them and............... They were being STALKED BY SEVEN WOLVES about twenty feet behind them. Now that picture will get your panties in a bunch and jump start your heart all at once.

The ladies did not panic, kept calm and cool. One of the ladies walked backwards, shouting and making noises to scare them off while holding her dog on a leash. She also used "Pepper" spray at times to keep them at bay. The ladies knew if they ran from the wolves that it would EXCITE them, that it was part of the hunt and their GAME, so walking was the ONLY choice.

Three wolves did attack one of the dogs and its owner kept pulling the leash. Finally, the wolves gave up and the ladies and their dogs survived. The dog that was attacked received care immediately afterwards for its wounds from the attack and will recover.

Ft. Richardson has closed all hiking areas for the time being since the wolves are stalking humans and dogs.

A few days before the Ft. Richardson attack, in Anchorage, a dog was attacked. The owner only found the dog's head and collar.

Around Fairbanks, wolves has been attacking sled dogs. They have killed four and have attacked several others. Some of these wolves had rabies and some of the dogs that were bitten had to be destroyed.

Some people believe that there must be a shortage of food for them to view dogs as food. Some believe that wolves have discovered that dogs are easy prey. Wolves are very smart. Sometimes the Alpha wolf will come out of a thicket and approach a dog. The wolf will act like he wants to play with him, running and chasing, then the wolf will try
to get the dog to follow him into the thicket to play, but that is where the rest of the pack (some packs have 5 to 10 wolves) waits for the "kill".

Wolves are "killing" machines and they are quick. Now a days, people are keeping their dogs inside. When they do let their dogs out side, they check around first. Some people leave on flood lights around their homes during the dark when their dogs are outside on a cable...wolves, most of the time will stay out of the light. But, it has been known that the Alpha wolf will go into the light to play with the dogs and recon the area. Some win, some lose.

A wolf also, tried attacking a horse a couple of weeks back. It was not known if a pack was in the thicket waiting. The horse put up a good fight and send the wolf off into the thicket dragging one of his hind legs. The wolf, if with a pack, was most likely dinner that night.

So, for now, people alert their neighbors and are aware of their surroundings for their sake and their pets' sakes.
