DURHAM,
N.H. (AP) - The University of New Hampshire is getting national recognition for
its programs to fight climate change.
A
new publication from the National Wildlife Foundation highlights UNH's efforts
to reduce greenhouse gases as it reports on how colleges and universities are
responding to global warming.
The
report is called "Higher Education in a Warming World: The Business Case
for Climate Leadership on Campus." It recognizes programs such as UNH's landfill
gas project, which is designed to drop the university's greenhouse gas emissions
to 67% below 2005 levels when it goes online this year. The project will bring
waste gas from a landfill 12 miles away to heat and cool campus buildings.
UNH
has instituted programs to conserve energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
integrate sustainability throughout its curricula, operations and research.
