STEPHENVILLE
(CBS 11 News) ? UFO fever continues to spread across North Texas. After last weekend's
alleged sightings in Stephenville, even more people have come forth with pictures
and reports of unexplained aircrafts.
Residents
of Stephenville are having fun and cashing in on the newly found international
fame. The Erath County cow mascot statue now sports a tin foil hat on its head.
The
sign at Taco Morado tells people that "aliens prefer purple tacos" like
those served inside.
Another
local shop is selling t-shirts touting Stephenville as "UFO Capital of the
World." Hundreds have been sold in just two days. All other shirts remain
untouched.
Another
popular shirt shows cows being abducted by aliens. "We just had the idea,
you know, let's make some shirts for it," said shirt designer Joaquin Cortez.
"We all bounced around some ideas and came up with it pretty fast. Got them
out here on the shelves and they sold out almost instantaneously."
Even
the high school's science club is making a few bucks. Their shirts showing a cow
being beamed up by a UFO have been a popular item. "We've had a big crowd,"
said student Pam Kinsel. "We have probably sold over 300 shirts from yesterday
to today. We're doing pretty good. Everybody's really excited."
The
frenzy is not reserved to local enthusiasts. One of the school's t-shirts was
sold to a man in Japan who heard of the UFO sightings. And on Saturday, an international
UFO organization is coming to town to hold a big conference.
