NEW YORK, July 29 A man
who came to New York from India in 2000 said he was kept as a slave in the temple
where he worked, The New York Post reported.
Devendra
Shukla, 31, said his captors repeatedly told him "this is what happens to
people with brown skin" as they showed him pictures of prisoners at Guantanamo
Bay.
Shukla
told the Post he was made to work domestic tasks in the temple and sometimes worked
16-hour days. He said his captors hid his passport and refused to let him leave
the temple.
The
police were reportedly contacted, but were not told of Shukla's misery.
Shukla
has filed a lawsuit against the temple, but temple officials say Shukla had his
own cell phone and took temple donations for himself with the hopes of starting
an astrology business, the newspaper said.
