Everybody's Talkin: See a ghost?

By KRYSTAL SLATEN

OK, so that’s obviously the first question anyone’s going to ask me after learning that I went ghost hunting all day Thursday with the Louisville Ghost Hunting Society.

And I am not telling … at least, not yet.

A group of ghost hunters (Tonya Haynes, Jason Age and Keith Age) were in Lawrence County Thursday to do some filming for a documentary called “Children from the Grave” that will appear in October on the SciFi channel. Keith is the host of the SciFi channel documentary, “Spooked: The Ghosts of Waverly Hill Sanatorium,” which will air again in October.

But it wasn’t all fun for the trio. They were on a fact-finding mission, which took them from the Lawrence County Museum of History to the Mitchell Community Public Library and through the Mitchell Cemetery before they even descended upon the “haunted house.” It was a day full of work, and a day spent hitting brick walls.

That’s quite normal, according to the hunters, who were bombarded with questions from workers at the Bedford McDonald’s who noticed Haynes’ shirt proclaiming the society.

“TV makes it look pretty glamorous,” Keith said. “A lot of it’s not. A lot of it is sitting around and waiting for something to happen or trying to separate fact from fiction. Being a ghost hunter, the biggest thing you look for is history, but with history, fact turns into fiction real quick.”

Nonetheless, the fact-finding mission was interesting.

And in the evening, we spent about five hours searching for spooks.

I am not going to tell you the house we were looking at. It’s in Mitchell, and it’ll be featured in Thursday’s Times-Mail. So look for that story and find out if yours truly found ghostly phenomenon. It’ll be well worth the read.

The last Potter

So did Harry Potter die in J.K. Rowling’s last book? And if not, who did?

Don’t ask this avid reader because I’ve never picked up a Harry Potter book nor have I ever watched one of those movies. And, no, it’s not because I have some religious bias against it. I’ve just never been interested.

However, I do want to know if he died or not, and so far, no one’s told me if he has or how the story ends. I’d love to hear from some readers on this one. Anyone got something to share on the Harry Potter series? Did you like the book, or did it end poorly? Let me know at krystal@tmnews.com, and your comments might show up in this column space in the coming weeks.

Back to class

It’s hard to believe that in a little more than two weeks, students will be heading back to class.

Seems as if they just took that last bus ride the other day, and now it’s nearly time for school to be in session.

And the folks at Mitchell Community Schools are already gearing up for that start.

On Aug. 9, all MCS substitute teachers are invited to the fourth annual substitute teacher orientation at the Mitchell High School auditorium.

The event, according to MCS Director of Curriculum Phillip Storm, is planned to help the “substitute’s time in the classroom meaningful for the students and enjoyable for the substitute.”

The program starts at 8:30 a.m. Registration starts at 8 a.m., and refreshments will be served.

Sounds like everyone is gearing up to head back to class.
