WARREN
CO. -- Two cases of mail and telephone scams have resurfaced, the Warren County
Sheriff's Office warned Friday. One victim lost $3,000 and another almost lost
$2,500.
The
scam targets senior citizens, deputies said. They receive letters from an organization
called the International Parapsychology Society stating they have won money in
a lottery, raffle or contest.
If
the victim sends a preaddressed letter back to the "society," a caller
identifying herself as "Maria Duvall" will request an insurance policy
purchase which usually runs between $2,000 and $3,000.
Deputies
are urging senior citizens to be careful with their personal information and to
check the sources on such letters.
