Man
ripped off on internet car scam
POLICE
are investigating a complaint from a Morphou district man that he had been conned
out of £3,300 sterling in an internet scam.
According
to the 32-year-old plaintiff, scammers had fooled him into paying up for a car
through negotiations on the internet.
He
said he had been in regular contact with a specific e-mail address, agreeing on
a price and date for the car to arrive to Cyprus from another European country.
They
also agreed on a way to pay for the car, which, according to the plaintiff, was
to deposit the cash into an account.
The
32-year-old was informed by the salesman and a transportation company
that the car had been shipped to the island. It was then that the Cypriot deposited
the money and awaited the arrival of the car, on July 24.
However,
the salesman and transportation company cut off communication with the 32-year-old
by July 20, and have not responded to any of his e-mails since. The car never
arrived.
Police
CID headquarters are investigating the case.
