Let
me state from the outset that I do and always have believed in the supernatural.
At the same time, I have always been more than a little suspicious of people that
claim to see or speak to spirits. Maybe it comes from
a lifetime prejudice as a horror fan against ghosts, it could be a last stand
for skepticism, I dont know. This in mind, I was quite dubious when Ghosthunters
arrived at my door. But, ever diligent, I read it anyway. And I must confess,
I was surprised. As a matter of fact, this book shocked the hell out of me with
how good it really is.
Author
John Kachuba (Ghosthunting Ohio, Ghosthunting Illinois) takes a very thorough
and entertaining look at the world of professional paranormal investigations.
In scathingly clear, concise, and occasionally humorous language we the reader
get to explore haunted houses with professional ghost hunting groups
as well as communing with the afterlife with the help of Spiritualist mediums.
Other chapters explore the proclivity of purportedly haunted items on Ebay, the
morality and legality of selling haunted houses, and the manner in which someone
a certified ghost hunter. Among these entertaining and informative
chapters we also have a massive amount of interviews with demonologists David
Considine of Phantasam Psychic Research and the prolific Lorraine Warren, who
was one of the few psychic investigators to check the Amityville home and is the
only one to have photos from such an investigation.
The
sheer amount of information presented within is truly staggering and would be
too much if it werent for Kachubas direct and entertaining writing
style. Mary Roach made the morgue fun with Stiff and Mr. Kachuba does
the same for paranormal exploration with Ghosthunters.
In
conclusion, this book should definitely be on your shelf if you are interested
in ghosts at all. Paired with Spook by the aforementioned Mrs. Roach,
you have the perfect primer for all your ghost hunting needs. Way to go John,
way to go. One last note for you to ponder til next time, Who you gonna
call? Shawn out.
