Psychic
tip prompts search for missing Pueblo woman
No
information and no suspects. Those are two dismal facts creating trouble in the
search for a local woman who's been missing since April.
Her family is
so desperate they've consulted a psychic who thinks the woman was killed and her
body dumped somewhere in a wide open area northeast of Pueblo.
It's northeast
of CSU-Pueblo, a place called Baculite Mesa, where there are thousands of weed
and cactus-covered acres, and miles of deep ravines.
The family's spent
the past 2 weeks searching the area for Jessica Ortiz. The 29 year old mother
of 2 was last seen in early April, outside the Classic Q's pool hall with her
boyfriend and two other men.
"Well at this point we don't even really
have a crime," Deputy Pueblo Police Chief John Ercul told News First. "We
have interviewed the boyfriend, we have interviewed him a couple of times, we
at this point have no probable cause."
Ercul says they're classifying
it a "missing person case," because they have no evidence of a crime.
The Ortiz family, however, thinks something terrible happened. They say
it's the only explanation.
"It's not like her to be gone at all.
She would not leave the family. No contact, no nothing. She's just been... she's
gone," said Melissa Bustamante, Jessica's sister.
The psychic they
consulted won't meet with police or News First. Deputy Chief Ercul says despite
that, they're willing to look into it. "We're not gonna dismiss the credibility
of that information, we need to check it out," he said, "We have a missing
person, there may be foul play involved we don't know. Somebody's life may be
at stake." he said.
Members of the Ortiz family admit, the worst
case scenerio would at least be an answer, because the unknown is a horrible pain
they've suffered far too long.
