Psychic takes stock of T.O.: Doesn't see financial 'tailspin'

By RITA DEMONTIS, SUN MEDIA

While everyone else was poring over their stock portfolios yesterday, we decided to consult a psychic.

Financial markets around the world should brace themselves for two to three more major dips before this tsunami-like hysteria of our financial world comes to a stop, ending fears of a recession coming our way.

Strong words from chief economists, or well-known market analysts attempting to allay the fears of millions of investors around the globe?

Nope. Try Toronto-based psychic "counsellor" Robin Cleland.

"Just this past Saturday I received a call from a stockbroker who asked my opinion of a specific stock -- he was nervous about what was going on in the market," offered the slight, mop-haired seer whose professional background includes psychotherapy.

'JUST SIT TIGHT'

"I told him to just sit tight and hold onto it -- that we're all in for a wild ride, but we'll weather this storm ... I say we have about a good five months of restructuring coming our way.

"We're due for something like this -- what with the political situation in the U.S. -- but as for recession ... no, not really. We may be flirting with one, but I don't see that much of a tailspin on the economy."

Canada, adds Cleland (born in Hamilton, and whose clientele includes CFOs, lawyers, doctors, journalists and the occasional farmer or three), will come out of this situation a little singed around the edges but "basically unscathed ... ultimately what we are seeing (on Bay Street) will impact positively on us. So relax, everyone."

CLIENTELE CHANGES

And that's what one automatically does on meeting Cleland, whose warm smile offers the perfect greeting as he patiently explains his work and a career that has grown professionally since the mid-1980s -- and continues to gain in strength as the landscape of his clientele changes.

"Actually, my work goes back to the 1970s, but I have made this my full-time career more than 25 years ago ... you would be surprised at the calibre of people who turn to this field for answers to events that have to do with all aspects of their lives," says Cleland, adding the empiric business world is now recognizing psychic counselling as a strategy for maximizing growth.

"It's an emerging practice that does bring together two different fields -- psychic analysis and psychological counselling -- it's the ability to see what's coming down the road and marry it to practicality," says Cleland.
