Councillors
and police show support to Tarrant High school community
Monday
morning councillors and police personnel turned out at the Tarrant High school
in St. Andrew to offer support to the school community.
A
shooting incident, which occurred close to the school on Friday, left one student
dead and another battling for life in hospital.
A
man was also killed in the incident.
It
would have been a good year, according to Tarrant High school Principal Albert
Corcho.
He
says the school is slowly healing after the shooting incident tarnished a record
of non-violence which the school administration has only recently enjoyed.
Mr.
Corcho says students, teachers and some parents have been in counselling sessions
all morning.
In
the meantime, Community Relations Coordinator from St. Andrew Central Police Division
Sergeant Brendalyn Chisolm, who has worked closely with the school over the years,
says the police will, in the coming school year, work to keep the school violence
free.
Around
1:30 Friday afternoon reports are that 15-year-old Gary Pierce was shot and killed
by unknown assailants on the outside of the perimeter fencing of the school.
Another
boy from the Haille Selasie High school in Kingston was shot and injured in the
incident.
He
remains hospitalised, reportedly with life threatening injuries.
A
bystander, 30-year-old Donovan Mcklean, was also killed in the incident.
