City will observe Earth Hour - Pembroke, Ontario

Mayor Ed Jacyno has declared that the lights in city buildings be turned off from 8 to 9 p.m. on March 28 to observe Earth Hour, and initiative which began in Australia a year ago.

"We have enrolled in the program," said Mayor Jacyno. "This gives a powerful message that we can all contribute to improving the environment."

He said a complete blackout will not occur.

"Safety is paramount," he said. "If you're observing this at home, light some candles and have a romantic evening. Just don't set the house on fire."
