Group
sets up hotline for UFOs A
UFO hotline has been launched to report sightings over Islington - and the group
behind it is offering counselling to spooked residents. The
Islington Ufology and Supernatural Studies group has created the service to allow
them to react quickly to sightings, such as the lights spotted over Archway last
year. It claims that Islington is a "hotspot" for paranormal activity
- and says seeing a UFO can be deeply troubling, requiring a couch and a sympathetic
ear. Paul Southcott,
49, of New North Road, Islington, behind the hotline, said: "There are a
lot of people out there who have experienced something and they don't know who
to turn to because they just feel silly. "We
will listen and talk them through it to give them some idea about what they are
going through. People will ring up when they get the bottle and feel ready to
tell us what happened and get it off their chest. If someone did ring up and say
there is a light overhead our investigators would go there straight away." Mr
Southcott, who is not working due to poor health, added: "North London is
a hotspot for this kind of thing." But
writer and UFO sceptic Ian Ridpath said: "I can't really imagine anyone who
saw the Archway UFOs was gravely shaken by the experience, so perhaps it is a
touch overdramatic. But maybe I am just an old cynic. It will be interesting to
see what they come up with. And if anything is reported I hope they will look
at all possible explanations - including things like party balloons..." To
report a flying saucer or seek counselling following a "close encounter"
call the hotline on 07500 346 688.
