Niagara Family Fun Summer 2002 Page 2 Since the beginning of recorded history, human kind has been intrigued with the world of spirits the souls, the essence of those who have passed from this three dimensional plane, through an esoteric transformation into the spirit world. There are friendly spirits, benevolent spirits, mischievous spirits and those that haunt homes, graveyards and the pages of history. Research has shown that in every region on the face of the Earth, ghosts, spirits or unseen forces have been recorded or documented or felt or viewed. Even today, in this high-tech world of ours, people all over the world are having strange and bizarre encounters with entities that are from the Unseen world. People coming to the Niagara Region are unaware that they have entered the most haunted area in Canada. From the haunted Drummond Hill Cemetery where the bloodiest battle of the war of 1812 was fought, to the unseen forces that lifted four member of the Niagara Regional Police Force on a couch during a poltergeist investigation in St. Catharines, Niagaras rich history of the living is closely seconded by its living present-day history of the dead. Within minutes of Clifton Hill, Lundys Lane and Victoria Street in Canadas hub of tourism, Niagara Falls, Ontario are some of the most haunted locations to be found in Canada. The Drummond Hill Cemetery is a haunted graveyard that is filled with history and ghost sightings as well. At 7:15 p.m. on July 25, 1814, General Winfield Scott advanced on the high ground towards the cemetery up the hill on this quiet pastoral road. On the hill beside the few headstones was British artillery which commanded the surrounding areas of Niagara Falls. The British, under the command of Lieutenant General Gordon Drummond (a Canadian by birth,) fought a hard battle where command of the hill see-sawed when the Americans successfully took the guns and then the British won them back a while later. Hours of heated battled took place around the hill where (after the thick clouds of gun powder smoke and inky blackness of night impeded vision,) occasionally friend fought pitched battle with friend and enemies slipped through lines without raising an eyebrow. By 1 a.m., the Americans had withdrawn to Fort Erie and the camps at Chippawa. Although the British had control of the hill and Lundy's Lane, the American's declared the action a victory. Having successfully defended the hill, the victory seemed to rest with Gordon Drummond but regardless, over 1,700 men littered the ground or were slowly dying under the saws of 19th century surgeons. Visitors and historians alike have been witness to apparitions of soldiers marching to a battle lost somewhere in time, orbs of light drifting throughout the lightless hours, and the constant feeling of unseen eyes guarding the final resting places of their fallen comrades. Along with haunted locations in Niagara Falls, those who dare to investigate the world of the paranormal using the science of parapsychology who embark with NIAGARA GHOST TOURS will also visit other locations throughout Niagara including The Lighthouse Restaurant and Pub at Black Creek where reports of a British soldier who seems to be guarding a small bridge over Black Creek are reported to this very day. The haunted pubs of historic Niagara-on-the-Lake will also be investigated as the Angel Inn, Buttery, Oban Inn, Fort Mississauga and Fort George, all fall under the keen eyes of those of NIAGARA GHOST TOURS. Another interesting fact is that Niagara is in the Great Lakes Triangle! A triangle, not unlike its famed cousin, The Bermuda Triangle, is home to vanishing ships . Disappearing aircraft . UFO sightings . Alien Abductions . Ghost Ships .. Phantoms . Invisible Walls . Mysterious anomalies . And much, more. There have been more ships that have disappeared, more aircraft that has gone missing and more cargo lost in the Great Lakes Triangle than in The Bermuda Triangle and NIAGARA GHOST TOURS will be your guide through your Triangle Experience.
